IN a strategic move to sanitize the state’s urban landscape, the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), supported by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has announced the commencement of a pilot cleanup exercise for telecommunications infrastructure.
The exercise is scheduled to begin on May 12, 2026, at the Emina Crescent Junction on Toyin Street.
The initiative requires the active participation of key industry players. Technical teams from the following sectors are mandated to be on-site by 9:00 a.m: Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), and Cable Infrastructure Providers, among others.
The Chairman of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) Cleanup Committee, Segun Okuneye, emphasized that safety is a non-negotiable priority.

He has directed all participating technical staff to wear appropriate safety gear and strictly follow operational safety guidelines to prevent accidents during the exercise.
The cleanup is designed to address the challenges of haphazard infrastructure deployment. Key goals include: Environmental Sanity (Removing redundant or damaged cables to restore the city’s aesthetics); Public Safety (Mitigating risks posed by dangling wires and poorly maintained equipment); Orderly Deployment (Establishing a framework for organized telecommunications growth within Lagos).
“Telecommunications operators remain committed to maintaining the aesthetics of Lagos State and supporting initiatives that promote a cleaner, safer, and more organized environment,” the committee stated.

Speaking on behalf of the ATCON Cleanup Committee, Ajibola Olude, urged all stakeholders and the public to cooperate fully with the teams on the ground. The success of this pilot scheme is viewed as a critical step toward a more sustainable and visually appealing “Smart City” infrastructure for Lagos.
